Celebrate your Motherhood With
Ayurvedic Treatment For Post Natal Care

Post natal period starts immediately after the child’s birth up to three months. In a different opinion the period lasts as long as the breast feeding persists.

During the maternity period the female undergoes variety of changes and tantrums due to the hormonal changes in their body. It is important to aware themselves and family members about these changes. Restoration of the mother’s health has prime role as the health and happiness of mother reflects in the growth and milestones of baby.

Most of the time lack of proper postnatal care results in lifelong ailments such as low back ache, lack of bladder control, loosened abdominal muscles, abdominal bloating( gastric discomfort), constipation, uterine prolapse etc. Prevention is always better than cure. Proper post natal care supports mothers by regaining health as an asset in future.

Why Choose Ayurvedic Postnatal Care

According to Ayurveda, childbirth disturbs the Vata dosha, leaving the body cold, dry, and weak. Without proper care, these imbalances can result in chronic fatigue, digestive issues, mood swings, joint pain, and weakened immunity.

Importance of Post Natal Care (Soothika Paricharya)

Ayurveda has a holistic approach towards each individual considering their innate characters( prakriti) and physical status( avastha). However the care and treatment plans for soothika paricharya have a general protocol up to an extent because the post partum is a state, not a disease, and the changes happening in females are similar.

Rapid involution of uterus immediately after the delivery often results in an emptiness of abdominal cavity( vata kopam),abdominal bloating( gastric discomfort),indigestion, anemia etc. Balancing these changes along with cleansing and strengthening the uterus ( garbhashaya shodana) for the regular periodic cycles are primary aims.

The package includes daily oil massage (abhyangam) for both baby and mother, medicated bath (vethu kuli), udara veshtanam (tight bandaging), keshadhoopanam, vethu kizhi along with the needed medications internally and diets.

Is it possible to do all these care after caesarean section delivery?, a common doubt among patients, and the answer is yes.

After analyzing the condition of the female all these treatments are advisable after C- section delivery.

The treatments are always in a systematic way, for the first 7 to 10 days after delivery, considering the period a preparatory time for the body to cope up with all the changes, the internal medicines and diet emphasizes for correcting the digestion, pacifying the vata. Thereafter the medicines, diet and treatments are for rejuvenation to vitalize the loose abdominal muscles, low back and uterus.

Insufficient breast milk and improper breast feeding results in nutritional deficiencies, indigestion, constipation in neonates.

Training young mothers the proper methods of breast feeding, treatments for increasing the quantity of nutritional breast milk are also included.

Anemia is another common challenge in post delivery period. The Dhatukshayam ( lose of blood, rakta dhatu kshayam) distracts the proper nourishing of tissues and cells ( jeevanam). Restoring the nourishing cells for the proper functioning also included in treatment plan

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why is post natal care important?

Post natal care supports a mother’s physical recovery, hormonal balance, and emotional well being after childbirth. It also ensures proper lactation, nourishes the baby, and helps prevent complications like back pain, weakness, or postpartum depression. Ayurveda views this period as critical for rebuilding strength and restoring balance in the body.

Natal care focuses on the pregnancy period and ensuring the health of both mother and baby before birth. Post natal care begins immediately after delivery, prioritizing recovery from childbirth, breastfeeding support, and newborn care.

Ayurveda emphasizes balancing Vata dosha, which increases during childbirth. Treatments may include Abhyanga (oil massage), herbal tonics, medicated ghee, and specific dietary guidelines to strengthen tissues, improve immunity, and calm the nervous system for both mother and baby.

Ayurvedic baby care often includes gentle oil massages with sesame or coconut oil to promote muscle strength, improve circulation, and calm the baby. Herbal remedies are also used carefully to support immunity and digestion, under guidance from experts.

Traditionally, Ayurveda suggests a 40 day care period following delivery, though the duration may vary depending on the mother’s recovery and health needs. Extended support may be required for cesarean recovery or breastfeeding challenges.
